WBC Light-Flyweight titleholder Edgar Sosa (35-5,19 KOs) can rightfully be called boxing’s busiest champion. Having succesfully defended his crown on March 28th, Sosa will be stepping back into the ring as early as May 30th for yet another title defense against an opponent TBA. Since he surprised the boxing world two years ago, winning the WBC belt over favored Brian Viloria, the 29-year-old champion has made eight title defenses, sold over a hundred thousand tickets to his fights and become a favorite of Mexican television. Edgar’s popularity is due to many factors: the Rocky-like story of a former hard-luck journeyman  boxer that turned his career, and life, around; his victories over  Filipino rivals and his willingness to constantly fight and  put his belt on the line.

“Mexican boxing fans just love Edgar,” says boxing writer Jose Luis Camarillo, “they identify with him.” Edgar Sosa’s avowed objective for this year is to reach the number of ten title defenses before invading the flyweight division in search of another crown.
