Well-known South African promoter Branco Milenkovic’s boxers are making
their mark.
The latest issue of the recognized “Bible of Boxing” Ring Magazine
pound-for-pound divisional ratings has listed no less than 8 fighters
handled by Milenkovic among the top ten in various weight divisions with
three fighters in the junior lightweight division.
IBF minimum weight Nkosinathiu Joyi (19-0, 15 KO’s) is listed at No.9 with
three Filipinos former world champion Florante Condes (23-4-1, 20 KO’s) at
No. 4, Milam Melindo (18-0, 5 KO’s) at No. 5 and WBO champion Donnie Nietes
(23-1-3, 14 KO’s) at No. 8.
Flyweight MoruitoMthalane (22-2,15KO’s) who lost to IBF champion Nonito “The
Filipino Flash” Donaire by a 6th round TKO is ranked No.8 while Donaire is
No. 1..
Simphiwe Nongqyi (15-0,6 KO’) has made the cut at No.10 junior bantamweight
while flashy Filipino southpaw Z “The Dream” Gorres is No.4. Silence Mabuza
(22-2, 18 KO’s) is ranked No. 4 among the bantamweights with Japan’sHozumi
Hasegawa at No.1 and former WBO champion Gerry Penalosa (53-6-2,36 KO’s) at
No. 10.
Its in the junior lightweight division that Milenkovic has established his
fighters credentials with former world champions Malcolm Klassen (24-4-2, 15
KO’s) at No. 2,Mzonke Fana (28-4, 11KO’s) at No. 3 and Cassius Baloyi
(36-4-1,19 KO’s) at No.5 while champion Humberto Soto is No.1
Welterweight Isaac Hlatshwayo (28-1-1,10 KO’s) is ranked No. 9 by Ring
Magazine where Shane Mosley is champion while lightweight Ali Funeka
(30-1-1, 25 KO’s) whose title eliminator against Zahir Raheem which he won
by a stunning 4th round KO was promoted by Milenkovic at the Jan Smuts
Stadium in East London in July last year is ranked No. 6 in the lightweight
division ruled by Juan Manuel Marquez.
