TOKYO, JAPAN
Busy-punching Filipino, OPBF top ranked Rocky Fuentes (23-6-2, 14 KOs), 111.5, impressively captured the OPBF flyweight belt as he kept throwing double left hooks from the belly to the face all night and earned a well-received but majority decision over WBC#8 ranked defending champ Masafumi Ohkubo (16-3-1, 5 KOs), 112, over twelve heats on Tuesday in Tokyo, Japan.

The official tallies were: Kazunobu Asao (Japan) 116-114, Severino Necesario (Philippines) 115-113, both for Fuentes, and scoring-referee Brad Vocale (Australia) 114-114. Despite an early gash over the left eyebrow, Okubo fought spiritually well but couldn’t show his usual up-and-down combinations only to mix it up less effectively. Fuentes, five years his junior at 25, looked more energetic, determined and effective to have the upper hand throughout the contest.

Undercard:
Unbeaten Chika Mizutani (5-0, 3 KOs), 130, Japan, turned the tables on Korean Jiyun Kim (6-2, 3 KOs), 130, and acquired the vacant female OPBF super-feather belt via TKO route at 0:43 of the eighth round in a schedule ten. Kim had been leading on points after the seventh due to the open scoring system upon the referee’s intervention. Mizutani, an awkward puncher, abruptly turned aggressive from the seventh on and finally caught Kim with a smashing right, which had the third man declare a halt to save her from further punishment.
Promoter: Miyata Promotions.
