THE WBC DECLARES THIS COMING
SATURDAY, APRIL 25th, ROBERTO DURAN´S DAY
As a homage to such a great former fighter whose name is Roberto Duran, the World Boxing Council declares this coming Saturday, April 25th, “Roberto Duran´s Day”.
Our President, Dr. Jose Sulaiman Chagnon, is sending, on behalf of the whole organization, his warmest congratulations to Roberto Duran, and joins the people of Panama in the very much deserved national homage that “Manos de Piedra” will be paid this coming Saturday.
Dr. Sulaiman commented: “Duran is, without any argument whatsoever, included among the all-time best 20 fighters, having become a Latin American and world pride”.
“He was champion in four divisions (Light, Welter, Superwelter and Middle, and he fought in 17 title bouts, even accomplishing the extraordinary feat of moving from Lightweight up to Middleweight, which is not common”.
“Manos de Piedra” distinguished himself by being one of the bravest, most courageous, and most destructive fighters, who would always step in the ring to win, and was indisputable pride of the WBC, as well as he is a very close friend of ours”.
“The heart of the WBC, and mine (Jose Sulaiman´s) will be in that fellow country, Panama, joining all those who will so fervently, and with the highest admiration, give him the affection, the respect, and the recognition he deserves, as he left his feats, written in golden and diamond letters, in his going through his path in boxing”, concluded Jose Sulaiman.
