WBC President Jose Sulaiman said today, “This is one more of the tournaments for the World Cup that we announced at the last convention, in order to get new heroes in boxing to replace the stepping down of so many heroes of the last decade.”

WILL BE REACTIVATED IN MERIDA, MEXICO
Entrepreneurs Luis Rejon Castillo and Jose Rivero Salazar will join efforts to carry out in Merida four and six-round championships, aiming to promote the sport of fists and start shaping new boxing figures of the region, as such tournament will take place with the participation of fighters from Quintana Roo, Campeche and Yucatan.
During the presentation of the fighters that will take part in the tournament tonight at the Kanasin multi-functional room, the vice-president of the Boxing Commission of the municipality Merida, Mariano Romero Cisneros, pointed out that it is important that kind of championships be held as it will be useful to encourage young fighters from the region.
The carrying out of the four and six-round championships came up from World Boxing Council President Jose Sulaiman Chagnon´s idea, when he was leading the Boxing Commission of Mexico City (CBDF); now, the tandem formed by Luis Rejon Castillo and Jose Rivero Salazar wants to give continuity to the idea created by the leader from Tamaulipas, and Rejon and Rivero will first do through the four-round championship in the bantamweight division.
Then, they will go on with the light flyweight division one, and the flyweight one, as they need to make a list of at least 10 fighters (or more) per division, and they believe they can achieve it since they will communicate with the president of the Boxing Commission of Cancun, Eliseo Gonzalez Gonzalez, as well as with the leaders of the Boxing Commissions of Campeche, Chiapas, and Tabasco, because if it is achieved that the tournament is regional, they want the championship to be named after its precursor, Don Jose Sulaiman Chagnon.
As it is well known, Romero Cisneros is currently the president of the Boxing Commission of this city, as the holder of the presidency, Jose Manzur Arguelles, is recovering from a surgery, and he is expected to return next month.
Today at Kanasin, in the main event a four-round bout in the light flyweight division, Pedro “Caramel” Cocom will face Edgar “Bream” Lopez, in addition to other 7 four-round bouts.
