MOURNING IN BOXING
PROMOTER NICOLAS RODRIGUEZ
PASSED AWAY
The World Boxing Council declares today a day of world mourning within our scope, because of the passing away of a great Mexican promoter and friend of ours for many years, Don Nicolas Rodriguez Merida.
Not only was Nicolas a boxing entrepreneur, boxers´ representative and a great connoisseur of the topic, but also he distinguished himself since his adolescence as a fan of the sports of fists, and at the same time he did his many activities as a businessman, he devoted a big part of his life to boxing, in every respect it is possible to do it.
Several of the most important promotions that have taken place in Baja California, particularly in Mexicali, his hometown, were staged by him. His prestige in the boxing circle, his knowledge, the affection we all felt for him, are things that are unquestionable.
Nephew to former President of Mexico General Abelardo Rodriguez, Nicolas amassed a fortune by himself, without turning to someone else, and a considerable part of such fortune was invested in promoting boxing bouts, and in boxing in general.
He led the careers of magnificent fighters such as: Rafael Gutierrez, Raul Soriano, Javier “Changa” Marquez, Gerardo Ferrat, “Pelon” Cervantes, and many others, some of whom fought for world titles, others were national champions; some more were world ranked fighters and so on, basically boxers of excellent quality.
May God rest the soul of this great friend and promoter !!
