During the last few days we have received some news by different international means, and both stories have made us express dismay over them, due to the kind of figures that are involved in a matter that we would never like to see in boxing.
It is about former Supermiddleweight world champion, perhaps the best of all time in that division, Joe Calzaghe, of Wales, and current WBC Lightweight world champion, Edwin Valero, of Venezuela, as both of them are in trouble because of their addiction to drugs, which was not known until very recently.
Valero has already shown some signs regarding the fact, but in recent days, the aforementioned fact was confirmed, and not only that, but also that he also succumbed to alcoholism, which brought him serious conflicts last weekend.
The man was sentenced to undergo a rehab program for six months.
Talking about Calzaghe, he confessed voluntarily that he “used” cocaine, but that he was trying to undergo a rehab treatment and go back to his exceptional sportsman nature in every respect.
Let´s hope both of them achieve their purpose, as they have many admirers around the world, one of them was and the other is of the best that has been seen in the rings in recent times. They are idols of many thousands, perhaps millions of fans in the world, and figures that children and youngsters look up to very much, and from here we are wishing their contribute with their greatness once again, the one that has been seen between the ropes, and they achieve to defeat this weakness in which they unfortunately fell into.
We can almost assure that they will, because we know what a champion is capable of, and we insist, we wish them the best.
