The California State Athletic Commission has decided to replace one of its judges with an international judge Saturday night, paving the way for the World Boxing Council to sanction the first of two live nationally – televised world title bouts Saturday night on Showtime.
No. 2 rated American Devon Alexander, 18-0 (11 KO’s) is facing No. 3 rated Brit Junior Witter, 37-2-2 (22 KO’s) for the vacant WBC Junior Welterweight (140 lbs.) Championship.
The other world title bout bout not affected by the ruling is betweeen Timothy Bradley and Nate Campbell for the vacant WBO Junior Welterweight bout.
The fights are being held at the posh Agua Caliente Casino in Rancho Mirage, California and lead promoter is Big Gary Shaw.
Don Majeski, an international boxing agent and representaive of Team Witter, told me a very amicable conference call between commission members including Director Bill Douglas and World Boxing Council Vice President Mauricio Sulaiman cleared up any confusion or misunderstanding and the WBC will sanction the fight and the card will proceed as scheduled.
