THE WINNER OF AUSTIN VS. MASKAEV WILL FACE WBC CHAMPION KLITSCHKO
During the discussions to designate mandatory defenses in today´s working session within the 47th World Boxing Council Annual Convention being held in Jeju, in the Heavyweight division it was ordered to hold an elimination bout between Ray Austin, ranked # 1, and former champion of the division and fighter ranked # 2, Oleg Maskaev, of Kazakhstan, and the winner will face current champion, Vitali Klitschko, for the world championship. Klitschko will make a voluntary defense of his title prior to such fight, when he faces Kevin Johnson, of the U.S.A.
Another interesting aspect was brought up regarding the Supermiddleweight division, in which the Super Six World Boxing Classic is being held. As it is known, two fights have already been held; in one of them, Arthur Abraham knocked out Jermain Taylor, while in a very close fight, Carl Froch defeated Andre Dirrell by decision.
WBC President, Jose Sulaiman, informed that seven judges saw the video of the fight, and after that, the rematch has been recommended.

It was informed that Night of Champions II will be taking place in Cardiff, in August 2010. The first Night of Champions in history was held in Cancun in January 2006, and it was attended by over one hundred world champions, being an unforgettable experience for the fans.
World Champion Andre Berto, in attendance in this Convention addressed the audience of the Convention and spoke about the great pride he feels for having become a World Boxing Council champion. During the session it was also talked about Berto facing Shane Mosley.
Berto as well as Andre Dirrell received a world championship mini-belt that was given to them personally by WBC President Sulaiman; both of them wore the belt on their left arms for the rest of the day.
It was agreed that the unbeaten knockout artist, WBCLightweight champion, Edwin Valero, of Venezuela, will put his title on the line in December 2009, and after that he will face Interim champion, Antonio DeMarco, in a bout that could be staged somewhere in Mexico.
Another fight that is very likely to take place in Mexican territory, actually in Yucatan, would be a title defense by Elio Rojas, Featherweight world champion, as he would be putting his title on the line when facing former champion Guty Espadas, ranked # 3 in the previously mentioned division.
It was approved to hold a tournament with six fighters in the Featherweight division, and perhaps Israel Vazquez and Rafael Marquez participate in such tournament. WBC President made a remark, saying that he personally would not vote for a fight between Vazquez and Marquez, as in the three previous bouts they practically destroyed each other. Nevertheless, he made clear that if by any given circumstance they get to face each other again, he will accept it.
It was also informed that the 48th Convention to be held next year will be in Cancun, Mexico City or Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, considering that the best place will be chosen. Several requests have been received for the 2011 Convention, Singapore and Turkey are two countries that sent their requests as they are very interested in hosting the 49th WBC Convention.
A long presentation was shown, and it was referred to by many of the attendants regarding the fact that it is necessary to find what to do in order to make money so that fighters do not end up being in poverty after retiring, particularly as time goes by and they become old. Somebody suggested that promoters be asked for one dollar for every ticket they sell in their promotions. Promoter and manager Gary Shaw opposed the suggestion and explained his reasons. The discussion on that topic will continue tomorrow.

En las discusiones para señalar defensas obligatorias en la sesión de trabajo de hoy dentro de la 47 Convención Anual del Consejo Mundial de Boxeo en Jeju, en peso completo se ordeno un encuentro eliminatorio entre el estadounidense clasificado como aspirante numero uno y el dos, el ex monarca de la división Oleg Maskaev, de Kazajstán y quien resulte vencedor, disputara la corona mundial al actual campeón Vitali Klitschko, quien previamente realizara una defensa opcional frente al norteamericano Kevin Johnson.
Otro aspecto interesante se dio en los supermedios, en donde se esta llevando a cabo un torneo entre seis superestrellas. Como es sabido, ya se llevaron a cabo dos combates. En uno de ellos, Arthur Abraham noqueo a Jermain Taylor, mientras que en una batalla muy pareja concedieron la victoria por puntos a Carl Froch sobre Andre Dirrell.
El presidente del CMB, José Sulaimán, informo que siete jueces presenciaron el encuentro a través de un video y tras eso se esta recomendando la revancha entre ellos.
OTRAS NOTAS…
Fue informado que será en Cardiff, agosto de 2010 la II Noche de Campeones de la Historia. Se recordara que la primera tuvo efecto en Cancún en enero de 2006 a la que asistieron poco mas de cien campeones del mundo, una fiesta inolvidable para los aficionados.
El campeón mundial welter Andre Berto, presente en esta Convención hablo ante los asistentes a la Convención del gran orgullo que siente por ser campeón del Consejo Mundial de Boxeo y se hablo sobre la posibilidad de un choque contra Shane Mosley…
El propio Berto y su compañero Andre Dirrell recibieron de manos del Presidente del CMB, un cinturón miniatura de campeón del mundo, cada uno ambos los lucieron en su brazo izquierdo durante el resto del día.
Se acordó que el rey de los ligeros, el imbatido noqueador venezolano Edwin Valero, expondrá la faja en diciembre próximo y después de eso ira contra el titular interino Antonio DeMarco, pelea esta que podría tener alguna plaza mexicana como escenario.
Otra pelea con posibilidades de presentarse en México, concretamente en Yucatán, seria la de Elio Rojas, el campeón mundial de peso pluma, quien expondría el titulo contra el ex monarca Guty Espadas, clasificado como tercer aspirante a la corona.
Fue aprobado un torneo con seis elementos en peso pluma y quizá en el intervengan Israel Vázquez y Rafael Márquez. El dirigente del CMB comento que el personalmente no votaría por una pelea entre estos dos, ya que en las anteriores materialmente se destrozaron. Sin embargo, aclaro que si en alguna circunstancia llegaran a enfrentarse de nuevo, lo aceptara.
Fue informado que la Convención del ano próximo se efectuara en Cancún, ciudad México o Puerto Vallarta. Se escogerá el mejor lugar entre los mencionados. Para 2011 se recibieron solicitudes de Singapur y Turquía, países interesados en presentar la Convención en el lapso mencionado.
Se ofreció una larga exposición en la que hablaron muchos de los presentes sobre que hacer para lograr dinero a fin de que los boxeadores no pasen penurias después del retiro, particularmente con el paso de los anos, cuando llegan a la vejez. Alguien propuso pedir a los promotores un dólar por cada boleto que vendan en sus promociones. El promotor y manager Gary Shaw se opuso a lo anterior y dio sus razones.
