Young Dominican heavyweight Nagy Aguilera may have ended the career of former WBC heavyweight champion Oleg Maskaev, (36-7, 27 KOs), scoring a first-round stoppage before Maskaev could even land a punch. Aguilera, (15-2, 10 KOs), dropped Maskaev early with a flurry of unanswered punches, then finished off a wobbly Maskaev with a big left hook that crumpled the Russian into the corner and forced referee Lou Moret to call it off at 1:54 of round one. The loss will certainly torpedo the WBC #2 Maskaev’s already planned world title eliminator against Ray Austin.
Unbeaten light heavyweight Denis Grachev (8-0-1, 5 KOs) was held to a six round draw by journeyman Ernesto Castaneda (11-8-2, 4 KOs). Scores were 58-56 Grachev, 57-57, 57-57.
Jr middleweight Richard Hargraves came out blasting in his pro debut smoking John Dunham with a first rd TKO.
Super middleweight Mike Guy scored a nasty first round knockout against Ayo Olorunsola in the pro debuts for both fighters.
Lightweight Max Becerra went the distance against a game Thomas Herrera, but came out the winner with scores of 40-36 across the board.
