Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez will face Miguel Cotto’s brother

Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (31-0-1, 23 KOs), the leading Mexican boxing prospect, will face Jose Miguel Cotto (31-1-1, 23 KOs), older brother of Miguel Cotto, as part of Billboard co-star fights Shane Mosley vs. Floyd Mayweather on May 1 in Las Vegas.

The news was released by the same ‘Canelo’ in the Televisa television network in which he stated:
“It’s a tough competitor, with experience and good record. He has already fought twice for a world championship. Did not win but they were good fights. I think at this point in my career I’m ready for this type of opponents.”

The defeat of Cotto’s career came by Juan “Torito” Diaz in April 2006 and the draw against Prawet Singwancha in May 2007. The draw of Alvarez was against Jorge Alvarez Juarez in just his fifth professional fight in June 2006.

In his last bout on March 6, 2010, the welterweight (147 pounds) of just 19 years, Alvarez, knocked in the third round to Brian Camechis. The boy has 8 knockouts in his last 9 fights. Cotto for his part in July  dispatched llido Julio by TKO in the sixth assault on the 19 of December last year.
