The traditional Fiesta Broadway, with all the charm of its color and music, added yesterday to the landscape a special guest who stole the applause and carried with him the voices of support and admiration of thousands of Mexicans.
The rising star of boxing, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, filled with expressive motivation and patriotism sense the traditional L.A. And in a surprise promotional stop of his fight next Saturday in Las Vegas against Jose Miguel Cotto, left a heartfelt invitation to everyone to have their support, while offering the best above the ring to fight for victory.
“Hello, Mexicans … it’s a privilege to be here with you,” began the young man from Guadalajara, who at age of 19 aims to be the new Aztec boxing superstar.
“Thank you for your support, from a long time I wanted to come to Los Angeles, what better than being here on a special day for all and when I’m on track to a very important date in my career,” he said.
“Canelo” Alvarez, with a record of 31-0-1, will make its debut at the MGM in Las Vegas on Saturday, as part of the bill that brings the highly anticipated fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Shane “Sugar” Mosley.
While a mariachi sang the classic pages of traditional Mexican music, “Canelo” and the former champion Daniel Ponce de Leon entertained the crowd with autographs and photos while signed boxing gloves and shirts.
“Chingate a Pacquiao” was the most repeated request by the Mexican boxing fans who see on Saul a promise of redemption of an activity in which they were kings and enjoyed like few others.
