PONGSAKLEK VS MIRANDA‏

  CHACHOENGSAO, Thailand — Former WBC flyweight champion Pongsaklek Wonjongkam and Mexican Julio Cesar “Pingo” Miranda both easily made weight and promised to score a knockout in their scheduled WBC interim flyweight title bout here Friday afternoon.

            Wonjongkam (71-3-1, 38 KOs) first took the scale and weighted exactly the limit, 50.802 kilos while Miranda (29-3-1, 22 KOs) submitted 50.32 kilos with the presence of the six WBC officials at the Paolo Memorial Hospital around 3pm Thursday (Wednesday in Mexico).

            Honorable WBC president Jose Sulaiman has appointed Japanese referee Fuji Fukuchi as the third man in the ring while the judges are this writer Rey Danseco from Manila in the Philippines, former boxer Brian McMahon of Sydney in Australia and Dr. James Jen Kin of Huntington Beach in California. The supervisor will be Major Lee of Korea and Edward Thangarajah.

            The 28-year old native of Tampico, Tamaulipas in Mexico is looking for a knockout win in the seventh round while the three-year senior local hero here is eyeing an earlier stoppage victory.

            The scheduled 12-round contest will served as main event of a card with six pairs of bouts. Promoted by Piyarat Wachirarattanawong of Petchyindee Boxing Promotions, Inc, the event will takes place in open air venue near the Municipal Hall before 4pm.

            Television network Channel 7 will telecast the bouts.

            Chachoengsao, which has more than 70,000 populations, is a town (thesaban mueang) in central Thailand, capital of the Chachoengsao Province and about 100 km east of Bangkok. It is located on the bank of the Bang Pakong River.

             Both boxers revealed to this writer that they had trained for three months prior to their fight.

            “Pongsaklek is 100 percent ready. He might win by knockout, but we’re happy if it will be a decision,” said Wachirarattanawong.
