CLEWISTON, FL and HOLLYWOOD, FL (June 29, 2009) The Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum of the Seminole Tribe of Florida is pleased to announce it has joined the effort to promote local Florida tourism and reward “stay-cationers” opting to travel in their own back yards this summer. The Museum will offer FREE admission to Florida residents  throughout the months of July and August.

“We want to encourage old friends and brand new audiences to take advantage of great gas prices and free admission to visit one of the best tribal collections in the country,” said the Museum’s Executive Director, Tina Osceola.  “The Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum gives kids, parents, and history enthusiasts a chance to explore an exciting, inspirational and historically accurate segment of Florida history and culture.”

Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum is the tribally owned and operated cultural museum of the Seminole Tribe of Florida. It offers visitors a look into the history and traditions of the Seminole Tribe.  The flagship facility is situated in the Everglades on a 66-acre cypress dome in the Big Cypress Seminole Indian Reservation and offers 10,000 square feet of air-conditioned gallery space featuring rare artifacts and lifelike dioramas depicting Seminole life at the turn of the century. A five screen orientation theater, one mile raised boardwalk and beautiful Museum Store all highlight the history, culture and art of the Seminole Indian people and provide an immersive cultural experience. The Museum recently earned full national accreditation ! from the American Association of Museums, making it one of the four percent of more than 17,000 museums in the United States to be accredited. Situated 17 miles north of Exit 49 off Interstate 75 (Alligator Alley) and a little more than one hour from Naples or Fort Lauderdale, the Museum is open daily from 9am to 5pm.

A satellite Museum facility and Museum Store is located in Hollywood, FL on the Hollywood Seminole Indian Reservation and offers 4,000 square feet of gallery space featuring two permanent exhibits, one cultural and one archaeological, as well as the current temporary exhibit Unconquered Imagination.

So come one, come all during the months of July and August. Groups above 10 are strongly encouraged to contact Assistant Education Coordinator Sara Whitehead to schedule a group tour and a possible craft making session (small fee for crafts only) in advance. Otherwise, all Florida residents are welcome to tour both Museum facilities independently.
