Juan Carlos Burgos
Continues on his Quest for a Title Shot on New Blood VI Mauricio Herrera to Face Toughest Test to Date
(Orange, CA) – The month of October will start with an explosive card of fistic action as young prospects, highly rated fighters, and all-action warriors will test their prowess inside the ring at the sixth installment of the highly acclaimed Thompson Boxing Promotions’ series “New Blood.” The six-bout card will take place on October 9, from the Doubletree Hotel – Ontario, which is located at 222 N. Vineyard Avenue. For tickets, priced at $75, $45, and $30, call 714-935-0900 Undefeated WBC # 1 rated puncher Juan Carlos “Mini” Burgos (22-0, 15 KOs) will face experienced Colombian Yogli Herrera (22-11, 15 KOs) for Burgos’ WBC Cabofe title in a 10-round fight. Burgos’ rise to contender-level status came from a thunderous knock out victory over Omar Lizarraga (KO 2) last February and a landslide unanimous decision over highly regarded Russian contender Vyacheslav Gusev last June. Training out of the Azteca Gym in his native Tijuana, Mexico, Burgos knows the importance of his upcoming fight. “I feel blessed to be able to continue winning and having the WBC #1 spot. I have to take every possible step to achieve my dream to fight for the green belt, but in front of me I have (Yogli) Herrera who has been in the ring with some of the toughest guys in the division,” said Burgos as he closed a sparring session. “Everybody is dangerous at this level, I will try to knock him out of the way and keep my slate clean.” The experienced Yogli Herrera has faced fighters such as Victor Fonseca, Bernabe Concepcion and Luis Cruz, and is always a game fighter that has only lost three contests by way of knock out. Training out of Miami, FL, Herrera hopes to derail the young Mexican’s aspirations. “I’m not afraid of this undefeated kid. He has a great record but has a lot to learn and I am willing to teach him.” “New Blood VI” will have an intriguing eight round jr. welterweight special attraction fight between Riverside’s Mauricio “El Maestro” Herrera (12-0, 6 KOs) against Angelino Cleotis “Mooki” Pendarvis (10-1-1, 3 KO). Mauricio Herrera’s climb to this level has been nothing but a swift one as he dismantled the likes of Pavel Miranda (KO 5), Brian Gordon (TKO 5), William Correa (TKO 5), Luis Lugo (UD 10) and Jason Davis (KO 5) in a period of 10 months. He captured the WBC USNBC title against Lugo with and a spectacular defense over Davis last August. “I am ready for Pendarvis,” said Herrera from the Jurupa Boxing Club. “I love the challenge and I know ‘Mooki’ will bring the best out of me. He is a good boxer with deceiving power and I will be more than ready for him.” Rounding out “New Blood VI” will be Jonathan Arrellano (3-0, 1 KO) from Ontario, CA, who will face Adrian Aleman (6-5-4, 3 KOs) from Indio, CA, in a four round bantamweight battle. Alberto Herrera (4-0, 3 KOs), Mauricio’s younger brother, will face Hedi Bouaziz (1-2) from San Diego, CA, in a four round jr. middleweight division clash. The action will start with pro debutants Emanuel Medina, a highly touted amateur boxer from Los Angeles, against Manuel Delcid in the jr. welterweight division. Also making his pro debut will be Juan Reyes from Ontario, CA, versus Oscar Chinchilla (1-0) from San Fernando, CA. Both bouts will be four rounds or less.
