KOBE, JAPAN
December 13, 2009
Nicaraguan challenger, ambitious and eloquent Alvaro Perez (18-1-1-3NC, 12 KOs) arrived in Japan on Friday, a week before his crack at the WBC bantam throne against Hozumi Hasegawa, making his tenth defense. The 27-year-old aspirant, accompanied by his manager Silvio Conrado, said before press people at the Itami domestic airport. “I know Hasegawa scored his last four defenses all by quick knockouts. If he comes on fighting, I’ll fight toe-to-toe. If he boxes, I’ll also box. Anyway, the winner and new WBC champion will be me. I’ll bring back the world championship belt.”
Perez started training from Saturday noon, and he showed he would have no weight problem as he was close to the 118-pound limit after his workout for two hours. The Nicaraguan looked to have a good condition before his title shot at the World Memorial Gymnasium in Kobe city. Good enough, the arena and the gym are just five minutes walk from his hotel respectively.
