As a man who has an avid interest in both fighting and boxing, the revelation that the upcoming battle between Britain’s two most high profile heavyweights will be unlicensed by the BBBoC is quite frankly fantastic. In the boxing world where politics determine so many reasons why high profile fights cannot take place I find it refreshing that two men who genuinely want to fight one another have found the means to do so on a large stage (Upton Park). There could have been one hundred excuses not to make the fight with regards to the official British sanctioning body but the fact of the matter is this fight will generate a phenomenal amount of public support which, good or bad will raise the profile of a stagnant division and a sport on the decline. Although it’s fair to say that there will most probably be some backlash from the BBBoC I think it is very brave of the promoter (somewhat unclear who exactly is taking it on) to be staging this event. There is a huge amount of profit to be made for all parties and the publicity will no doubt be massive, as far as I’m concerned if this fight can get more young people into boxing gyms across the country then all the better!
