What they do right

It disturbs me when the WBC gets arbitrary blows for  issues that plague women’s boxing.  Is it because they’re the only major body to take women’s boxing seriously? I don’t know whether it’s naiveté or sour grapes, because except for the hoopla over Christy Martin, women’s boxing remained in the closet until the WBC came along and put it in center ring. Could it be better? Hell yes! And that’s the goal. Meanwhile there were fifty championship fights last year. This is the real deal. Unlike so many of those made up, gender bender belts that have no meaning in the sport. I’m not disputing the good match that has led to the win, but it’s a Cracker Jack prize. And many of these fights go on without the proper supervision, certified officials and standardized medical testing. The WBC is the only major sanctioning body that gives the women the respect they deserve. And you can take that to the Olympics!
