Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (33-0-1, 25 KOs) scored a brutal sixth round TKO over Luciano Leonel Cuello (26-2, 12 KOs) on Saturday night at the Arena VFG in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.
In what had evolved into a highly charged grudge match, Alvarez dropped Cuello in both the first and second rounds.
Cuello stayed on his feet for the rest of the fight, but it was all one-way traffic from Canelo and the beating was finally stopped in round six.
With the win, Alvarez claimed the vacant WBC Silver super welterweight belt. Among those on hand were “The Golden Boy” Oscar de la Hoya.
