In front of more than 5,000 fans who gathered in Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico, WBC female flyweight world champion Mariana Juarez brilliantly made the first defense of her title against Gabriela Bouvier from Uruguay. Mariana took control of the fight from the first round, as cries of “Mexico, Mexico” echoed in the building. Near the end of the seventh round as Bouvier received a real beating, the referee ended the fight, crowning Juarez the winner by TKO. With the victory Mariana moves to 29-5-2, 14 KOs.
Strawweight Ganigan López confirmed his status as WBC #2 in the division as he emphatically defended the WBC Silver 105lb belt by seventh round TKO over a game and determined of Omar Rosales from Monterrey, Mexico. Promoter Fausto Daniel Garcia reported that negotiations are underway to bring Japanese WBC strawweight champion Kazuto Ioka to Mexico to defend his title against Lopez probably in August of this year.
