It is highly gratifying to see how the boxing community of the world responds in absolute unity during difficult times.
Adonis “Superman” Stevenson lost his WBC light heavyweight title by 11th rd Knockout in a fight in which he was ahead in the scorecards at the time of the stoppage. Adonis was rushed to the hospital and went under surgery. His condition was reported as critical and eventually has improved to stable.
The WBC has received countless messages from all over the world with sensitive words of encouragement for Adonis, prayer chains are being held all over the world and the boxing community in general is united in one front in full support of our champion.
We would like to acknowledge the professionalism and sportsmanship of WBC new champion Alexandr Gvozdyk, his management and promotion as they have been extremely respectful of the sensitive times and have remained quietly about such great victory in respect to Adonis condition.
The WBC also wishes to acknowledge the local boxing authorities, The Quebec Boxing Commission, under the leadership of commissioner Michel Hemlin as their performance of the emergency protocol was impecable. The inspectors and doctors worked in perfect coordination and the medical service was immediate to attend to Adonis at the dressing room and transportation to the hospital, getting him there in 9 minutes, and exemplary compliance of all medical and safety protocols to guarantee the attention within the “Golden Hour”.
