PACQUIAO TOPS MAYWEATHER IN FORBES’ CELEBRITY 100
RIVALS Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr are still the only boxers in the 100 most powerful celebrities listed by Forbes Magazine.
Pacquiao remains ahead of Mayweather, 78 to 88 spots, respectively, in the list released on Wednesday (Thursday, Manila time).
Last year, Pacquiao was ranked 33rd while Mayweather was 52nd.
They are tied as14th world’s highest-paid athletes with $34 million earnings as of this month.
Pacquiao netted an estimated $26 million from his fourth fight against Mexico’s Juan Manuel Marquez in December.
The 34-year old pugilist, who is serving his second term as congressman in his native Philippines, other sources of wealth come from product endorsements.
Although Pacquiao’s endorsement deal with Hewlett-Packard expired last year, he keeps partnership with Nike, Monster Energy, Hennessy, Wonderful Pistachios, San Miguel Beer and several others in the Philippines.
Mayweather, the highest paid athlete in 2012, took a jackpot in February with a blockbuster six fight deal until 2015 with Showtime.
In weak PPV sales, Mayweather took $32 million guaranteed purse in his one-sided unanimous decision win over Robert Guerrero in May.
Forbes believed the deal is expected to bloat Mayweather’s net to roughly $200 million if he fights six times.
