PHILIPPINES TOP PROMOTER OF WBC INTERNATIONAL TITLES IN ASIA, 3RD IN THE WORLD

The Philippines pose as the top promoter of WBC International Championship program in Asia and third in the world this year.

With two scheduled International championships on Sunday, December 28, at Manila’s Sucat, Paranaque City, the Philippines will have four WBC International title fights for 2014.

It will break the tie with Thailand and Zambia and then surpasses the three shows in Russia, South Africa, United States, and Wales.

On schedule in Manila will be the bantamweight championship between titlist Rex Wao and challenger Silvester Lopez and the featherweight bout between Dennis Tubieron and Carlo Magali. The card is promoted by Gabriel “Bebot” Elorde Jr, record holder of most number of WBC International championship bouts promoted in one card.

Elorde scribed the history in early 2000 when he promoted at least three or more title bouts per night.

Elorde headlined Manny Pacquiao six times from December 1999 until before Pacquiao won the IBF super bantamweight title in 2001.

Elorde also promoted the fights of Juanito Rubillar, Ernesto Rubillar, Abner Cordero, Zarlit Rodrigo, Joel Junio, Junver Halog, Jovy Halog, Joel Avila, Ricky Gayamo, Randy Mangubat, Malcolm Tunacao, Takashi Mizuno, Joma Gamboa, Jin-Ho Kim, Roger Galicia, Johnny Lear, Manny Melchor, etsutora Senrima, Jong-Wan Kim, Nedal Hussein, omtawin Singwancha, Wethya Sakmuangklang, Fahsang Pongsawang, Shinny Bayaar, Seung-Kon Chae, Todd Makelim, Arnel Barotillo, Nedal Hussein, and Reynante Jamili.

WBC International Championship Chairman Mauro Betti of Rome, Italy accounted at least 41 title bouts in 18 countries took place up to the end of November.

Mexico had the most title bouts with 18, followed by United Kingdom with six. Countries with one championship promotion each in Turkey, Italy, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Congo, Australia, Burkina Faso, Ireland, and Ghana.

“Fighters from 36 different countries have been involved,” Betti announced in the program’s official website. “The Committee wants to end this successful 2014 with at least three more title bouts in December.”

The triple title bouts on Sunday, December 28, are ready to go in another presentation of BAKBAKAN SA ELORDE (Rumble at Elorde) at The Flash Grand Ballroom of the Elorde Sports Complex in Manila’s Paranaque City, Philippines.

Former WBC silver super bantamweight champion Silvester Lopez (22-9-2, 16 KOs) of Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay will go down in weight to challenge defending champion Rex “Igorot Warrior” Wao (10-0, 8 KOs) of Tadian, Mountain Province for the WBC International bantamweight title.

Puerto Princes City pride Dennis Tubieron (19-3-1, 8 KOs), former holder of Wao’s title belt, and Carlo Magali (18-7-2, 9 KOs) of Talibon, Bohol are vying for the vacant WBC International featherweight title.

The third championship will be between foreign boxers. Reigning WBC Asian Boxing Council lightweight boss Tosho Makoto Aoki (18-12-2, 15 KOs) of Japan will put aside his belt and instead fight Indonesia’s Rengga Rengga (7-1-0, 1 KO) for IBF Australasian lightweight title.

It will be the 8th and final boxing show this year of Gabriel “Bebot” Elorde Jr.
