Casimero Philippine Boxer of the Month
By REY DANSECO
Former IBF light flyweight champion Johnriel “Quadro Alas” Casimero took the honor as “Boxer of the Month” in the current national ranking of the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) in the Philippines.
A panel of GAB ratings committee unanimously picked Casimero’s second round stoppage win over ambitious Mexican Armando “Cobra” Santos as the most impressive.
The native of Ormoc City floored Santos with a counter-left at the end of the opening round and quickly finished him off at the beginning of the second round.
The fight, classified as IBF Flyweight Title Eliminator, took place on Dec. 13 at the Salos Las Palmas in Pesqueria, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.
Casimero succeeded Donnie “Ahas” Nietes for the honor after the latter defended his world light flyweight title under the less-regarded WBO.
