Purse bid for José Zepeda VS. Regis Prograis, WBC super lightweight title

The World Boxing Council advises  that tomorrow, Tuesday, August 30, 2022, a purse bid will be held for the José Zepeda vs. Regis Prograis, for the vacant WBC super lightweight title.

Previously, the WBC had ordered the fight between Zepeda and former champion José Ramírez, but the latter will marry his girlfriend Marisol López in October, so he will not be available to fight.

Zepeda (35-2, 27 KOs), 33, will get his second shot at the WBC title. He lost a close fight against Ramirez in 2019. Zepeda is on a five-fight winning streak, including a fifth-round knockout of former champion Ivan Baranchyk in one of the most extraordinary fights of 2020.

Prograis (27-1, 23 KOs), 33, reached the final of the World Series of Boxing tournament in April 2019, but lost a majority decision against Josh Taylor. In his most recent fight he knocked out Tyrone McKenna in the sixth round in March of this year.

El Consejo Mundial de Boxeo informa que mañana martes 30 de agosto de 2022 serealizará una subasta para el combate José Zepeda vs. Regis Prograis, por el título vacante superligero del WBC, de conformidad con las Reglas y Reglamentos del WBC.

Anteriormente, el WBC había ordenado el combate entre Zepeda y el excampeón José Ramírez, pero este último se casará con su novia Marisol López en octubre, por lo que no estará disponible para combatir.

Zepeda (35-2, 27 KOs), de 33 años, tendrá su segunda oportunidad por el título del WBC. Cayó en un cerrado combate contra Ramírez en 2019. Zepeda tiene una racha ganadora de cinco peleas, incluyendo un nocaut en el quinto asalto sobre el excampeón Ivan Baranchyk en una de las mejores peleas de 2020.

Prograis (27-1, 23 KOs), de 33 años, llegó a la final del torneo de la Serie Mundial de Boxeo en abril de 2019, pero perdió por decisión mayoritaria ante Taylor. En su pelea más reciente noqueó a Tyrone McKenna en el sexto round en marzo de este año.
